£7500 Grant Scheme update – see below extract from MCS
Today 21st September 2023, the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, made an announcement updating the country on changes to the Government policies supporting our transition to Net Zero.
Among the announcements was a change to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). The grant values for air source and ground/water source heat pumps will all increase to £7,500 per installation. The grant value for biomass boilers remains at £5,000.

“MCS welcomes the Government announcement today that Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant values will be increased to £7,500. Making it easier and more affordable for the average UK consumer to transition to low-carbon heating is vital if we are to reach our national decarbonisation goals.
“More people will now have the confidence and ability to invest in low-carbon heating and this is an important step forward towards net zero.”
“However, it is disappointing to see a delay in the deadline to phase out new gas boilers by 2035. The most important element of helping consumers make the right, informed, green choice is clarity and moving the goalposts now risks confusing home and business owners about what the right thing to do is.”
We expect the date these changes will take effect to be announced later this week. If you have already received a BUS grant, you will not be eligible for an uplift in the total amount.
If you currently have a live voucher, it remains worth the original value – £5,000 for air source heat pumps or biomass boilers, £6,000 for ground/water source heat pumps. However, you may choose to revoke your live voucher now and re-apply for a new voucher at the higher value once the changes take effect.

What will we do at this stage.
Complete a Whole House Heat Loss to identify the best Heat Pump output and Hot Water System including identification of Heat Emitters that may require changing.
Submit an Estimate based on our initial findings, allowing known and provisional sums to be included to give a worst case scenario cost for the works.
You want to Proceed further
We will revisit and complete a Whole House Room by Room Technical Survey with a fully itemised and costed Quotation, from this a Heat Loss report will be provided with indicative operating costs, with amendments made to the original Estimate based on all things known and areas of concern highlighted. this service will be charged for if the works are not undertaken – considerable time and resource is made to facilitate this element of the works which are included in the quote.
The Heat Loss Survey and Report is included within the costings of all our Estimates and Quotations, if you request that this is completed and you do not proceed to the Installation as planned, a Charge of £300.00 Plus Vat will be charged for this service.
You instruct us to proceed with a 25% deposit, this is insured in accordance with MCS and RECC Rules and Standards
Dates for Work are agreed, and the Grant is applied for – you will need to give consent
Works are completed and Commisioned
Invoices are raised for Payment and the Grant is redeemed
You now have a Low Carbon Heat Pump
on each Anniversary we will contact you and arrange for a Heat Pump Annual Service and Maintenance Check – this will be a requirement of the Manufacturer warranty Terms and Conditions.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
Information about the new Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) will provide upfront capital grants to support the installation of heat pumps, and in some circumstances biomass boilers, in homes and some non-domestic buildings. The BUS will be open to properties located in England and Wales. It will run from 2022 to 2025.
Consumers will be able to get:

£5,000 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump

£5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler
-
£6,000 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump
Heating systems commissioned on or after 1 April 2022 date will be entitled to support under the scheme. (Commissioning is the completion of installation and set-up of the system.) Installers will be able to open an account for the BUS with Ofgem, the scheme administrator, from 11 April 2022. The BUS will open for grant applications and payments on 23 May 2022.
The following homes will be eligible for the BUS:

Homes and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales will be eligible (the maximum installation capacity of up to 45kWth covers the vast majority of these properties).

New builds and social housing will not be eligible, although custom-build properties will be eligible.

Properties will need a valid energy performance certificate with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
-
Biomass boilers are only eligible in rural locations and in properties off the gas grid.
-
Heat pumps are eligible either on or off the gas grid.
-
The commissioning date of the heating system must be on or after 1st April 2022.
-
Existing fossil fuel systems such as oil, gas or direct electric must be fully replaced, no hybrid systems will be eligible.

Replacement low carbon heat systems will not be eligible.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme launch: what installers need to know
10th March 2022
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will launch the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) on Monday 23 May 2022.
Installers will be able to make voucher applications on this date. Please note that – although the voucher application system opens on 23 May 2022 – installations commissioned from 1 April 2022 will be eligible to apply for the BUS.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
A new, flat, upfront grant, the BUS comprises £450million of total support over a three-year period.
Announced in the government’s Heat and Buildings Strategy, the BUS follows the Domestic Renewable Heating Incentive (DRHI), which closes at midnight on 31 March 2022. We have explained the difference between the BUS and DRHI on our website.
The BUS allows consumers to apply for a one-off grant payment of:

£5,000 towards the cost of an air-source heat pump (ASHP) or biomass installation

or £6,000 towards the cost of a ground-source heat pump (GSHP) installation.
Please be aware that biomass installations are only supported in limited circumstances, and solar thermal is excluded from the scheme.
Installers will be required to lead the voucher application on behalf of the consumer.
Homes and small non-domestic buildings on and off the gas grid, including owner-occupiers, private landlords and custom-builds, are eligible for the BUS. New buildings and social housing will not be eligible for support. The consumer must have an EPC issued within the last 10 years to qualify.

CLEAN HEAT – LOW CARBON HEATING
The Goverment announced a plan to drive down the cost of clean heat on the 18th October 2021and its a scheme to incentivise the Installation of Low carbon Heating Systems.
The Scheme details and criteria is still to be finalised, but in essence will assist in paying towards the total cost of a Heat Pump Installation as opposed to Gas or Oil.
£5000.00 will be available to 90000 Homes from April 2022 and will be in place for 3 Years.
The Criteria for Accredited Installation Companies is yet to be notified, but we at shelford Heating will be ready to be an integral part of the scheme and we anticipate being able to offer the package to our Clients.
Shelford Heating have been installing Heat Pumps as replacements to Oil Heating Systems since 2009, for suitable properties.
Quotation and Technical Visits will hopefully begin in March 2022 once we are fully aware of all criteria and our systems and procedures meet with all the new statuatory requirements.

Green Homes Grant Scheme Closure

The Green Homes Grant Scheme is Closing to new Applicants from Wednesday 31st March 2021 following the Announcement from UK Government.
This is a disapointing to us at Shelford Heating.

The Scheme timeline has been extended from the end of March until 12 months after the start date, great news if you are considering to upgrade to a renewable energy Air Source Heat Pump from an Oil Appliance.

As Approved MCS Installers of Renewable Energy Heat Pump, we are able to complete works on this scheme, We are seeing heavy demand for this service at present – and will do what we can to assist you in making the right choices.
We also have to become members of the Trustmark Scheme our Registration number is 1900939
Our Business Shelford Heating Ltd is registered with the Goverment Agency Green Homes Grant Service.
The Process for application and approval is not Guaranteed, and until you recieve a Grant Voucher works can not proceed.
We are only able to Offer at this time the Installation of Air Source Heat Pumps, once we recieve an enquiry from you we will contact you to get some basic information, this will be further supported by a Pre Technical Site visit to assess suitability and provide a Budget Costing. if at this juncture you wish to proceed further we will complete a Technical Visit where we will complete a full design and Heat Loss Calculation of your property, the initial budget costing will be updated to provide a full cost of the intended works along with reccomendations on Heat Emitter changers.
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will be required for your property – Our Reccomendation is Beach Energy Consultants of Cambridge – Mr Tony Wyatt can be contacted on 01223 269215.
Only Homes that have good levels of Insulation should be considered, an EPC will give you the best indication of the levels, and it may well show that an Insulation upgrade along with renewable technology is the best way forward.
Vouchers will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible improvements, up to a maximum government contribution of £5,000.
If you, or someone in your household, receive certain benefits you may be eligible for a voucher covering 100% of the cost of the improvements. The maximum value of the voucher is £10,000. Check if you’re eligible for the low income support scheme.
If you’re claiming other grants or funding
Energy Company Obligation (ECO)
You cannot claim a Green Homes Grant voucher towards the cost of a measure which has also had funding under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). You can claim both ECO and Green Homes Grant as long as they are each for different measures – for example loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
You can claim both the Domestic RHI and the Green Home Grant for a renewable heat installation. You must claim the Green Home Grant voucher first and then notify Ofgem that you have used it when you apply for accreditation to the Domestic RHI. The Green Homes Grant will then be deducted from your Domestic RHI payments.
If you’re only claiming the Green Homes Grant voucher for energy efficiency measures you do not need to notify Ofgem.
The Process
Step 1 Installer provides Customer with quote for services.
Step 2 Customer submits application to GHGS identifying selected Installer from approved list.
Step 3 Project is considered for pre installation inspection. If selected,
Installer receives pre installation inspection notification via email.
No action required by Installer at this step.
Step 4 Installer provided with an update of pre installation inspection
results via email.
If project passes preinstallation inspection, Installer is notified of voucher
being issued to their ID.
Step 5 Installer creates new job using Sightline Mobile app and enters
Voucher ID. Note, a separate Sightline Mobile form is required for
each Voucher ID.
Step 6 Installer schedules work.
Step 7 During the first visit to Customer’s home, Installer uses Sightline
Mobile app to document pre installation conditions with photos and
existing measure information.
Step 8 Installer completes Customer-authorised work.
Step 9 Upon completion, Installer uses Sightline Mobile app to document
post installation conditions with photos and measure information
and submit project to Scheme Administrator.
Step 10 Upon completion of Low Carbon Heating Systems, Installer must
register the installation on the MCS “MID” database and issue the
Customer with the MCS certificate and MCS compliance certificate,
together with any relevant manufacturer’s instructions for operating
and maintaining that system as part of the commissioning of the
installation. For biomass installations, Installer must provide
information about the Biomass Suppliers List.
Upon completion of Energy Efficiency measures, Installer must
issue any certifications, claim of conformities or handover packs in
accordance with the relevant PAS.
Installer must also provide any relevant guarantee documents.
Step 11 Upon completion, Installer lodges details of the installation on the
TrustMark Data Warehouse, which requires the submission of
evidence and documents. Installer also notifies the relevant body of their installation according to the requirements of the building
regulations within 30 days of completion of installation.
Step 12 Installer provides invoice to Customer within 14 days of completion of installation. Invoice must follow Scheme requirements, including having a separate invoice for each voucher.
Step 13 Installer receives 1/3 payment from Customer. If Customer receives qualifying benefits for low income path, full payment, up to cap
amount, is made from GHGS in Step 18 below.
Step 14 Project undergoes a desktop review. Installer informed via email if amendments to improvements are needed.
Step 15 Installer completes required project amendments.
Step 16 Project considered for post inspection. If selected, Installer is
notified via email.
Step 17 Installer informed of post inspection outcome and, if necessary,
need for amendments to the improvements via email.
Step 18 Installer completes any required amendments and receives 2/3
payment from GHGS. Most installers will receive the grant payment
within five working days of validation of their work.
If Customer receives qualifying benefits for low income, GHGS pays 100% of eligible cost within the Scheme limit.
